"Many people ask me if working at House of Ruth Maryland is depressing, but it is quite the opposite. I am continually inspired by the strength and efforts of the women I meet."
Anne Cavett, RN, BSN -- MSN-FNP/MPH candidate

Since 1992, the School of Nursing has established three Community Nursing Centers in East Baltimore to reach out and improve lives—making a difference to both families and individuals in need:

  • Wald Community Nursing Center: provides gap medical services and health screenings, various child immunizations, physical examinations health screenings and case management and referrals;
  • House of Ruth: offers nursing care and health promotion to residents at a shelter for battered women;
  • Isaiah Wellness Center: offers residents and elders in East Baltimore health promotion activities, diabetes support groups, flu clinics, referrals and case management.

Springing from a tradition of serving the city’s most vulnerable communities, faculty and students offer these free health services to poor, uninsured, or under-insured residents.
