Associate Professor Hae-Ra Han Awarded $2.7
Million to Improve Cancer Screenings
Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing
(JHUSON) associate professor Hae-Ra Han, PhD, RN has been awarded a $2.7
million research project grant (R01) from the National Cancer Institute to
explore tactics to improve cancer screening behaviors among Korean American
women.
According to Han, not only are breast cancer rates rapidly
increasing among Korean American women, but this same population is
suffering from the second highest incidence of cervical cancer among all
U.S. women. more...

Hopkins Nursing Professor Becomes Global Ambassador
Jacquelyn C. Campbell, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor at the Johns Hopkins
University School of
Nursing,
has been selected to join a group of 25 experts in global health research
who will advocate for greater U.S. investment in global health research.
They join 50 of their peers in Research!America's Paul G. Rogers Society for
Global Health Research in a united effort to build a national conversation
around the value and importance of U.S. funded global heath research.

Collaborative Team to Study Nurse Impact on Health Care Quality
Two Hopkins nurse researchers, Julie Stanik-Hutt, PhD, ACNP, CCNS and
Kathleen M. White, PhD, RN, CNAA, BC, are part of a trans-disciplinary team
that will study the impact Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) have
on health care quality and patient outcomes.
The research, sponsored by the Tri-Council for Nursing and 27 national
nursing organizations, is the first comprehensive study of its kind in 20

Jennifer Wenzel Receives Nurse Faculty Scholar Award 
Assistant professor Jennifer Wenzel, PhD, RN, CCM, is one of 15 junior
faculty in the nation to receive an inaugural Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Nurse Faculty Scholar award.
The three-year, $350,000 grant will support Wenzel's research to address
health disparities affecting rural African American seniors who have been
diagnosed and treated for cancer. "I hope to use this generous support from
the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to improve health outcomes for this
at-risk population to help make a real difference," says Wenzel.

Kathi White named Director of Doctor of Nursing Practice Program
Associate
Professor Kathi White, PhD, RN, CNAA, BC, has been named the first director
of the new School of
Nursing
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. White, who previously served as
the program's interim director, currently directs the SON masters program,
coordinating both the MSN health systems management track and the MSN-MBA

Miyong Kim to lead Health Systems and Outcomes Department
Professor
Miyong Kim, PhD, RN, FAAN has been named
chair
of the School's Department of Health Systems and Outcomes, in an
announcement by Dean Martha N. Hill, PhD, RN, FAAN. Dean Hill described Kim
as "an exceptional translational researcher who brings to the position a
collaborative spirit and leadership style that exemplifies the scholarly
excellence of the School of Nursing."

Nancy Glass Wins Second Grant to Help Prevent Workplace Violence
Associate Professor Nancy E. Glass,
PhD,
MPH, RN, has been awarded a second Research Project Grant (R01) from the
National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The award,
made in the same funding cycle as her previous $2.9 million award, funds her
studies in intimate partner violence, a problem that annually results in as
many as 1,200 deaths and 3 million injuries among women in the United

Jacquelyn Campbell Leads National Nursing Faculty Scholars Program
Professor Jacquelyn C. Campbell, PhD, RN, FAAN, Anna D. Wolf chair in the
Department of Community Public Health, has been appointed director of the
new Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nursing Faculty Scholars program, which
will be headquartered at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing
(JHUSON).
Over the next five years, the program will provide $28 million to junior
nursing faculty in an effort to help them advance in their fields and gain
faculty positions earlier in their careers by providing mentorship,
leadership training, salary and research support.
