Peace Corps Fellows Program

"I enrolled as a Peace Corps Fellow and my Hopkins mentors taught me
to have courage, to work hard, to really care about the communities and people we serve."
– Christine West, MSN/MPH '04, BS '00

Established in 1991, the Peace Corps Fellows program was the first baccalaureate program of its kind in a school of nursing in the U.S. and currently is one of only three such programs in the country.

Returned Peace Corps Volunteers are invited to study at the School of Nursing in a program that features unique opportunities through award-winning community outreach initiatives, including the Community Outreach Program in East Baltimore. In exchange for their work in community health nursing, Fellows receive financial assistance or scholarships to help cover the cost of tuition.

Since 1991, the School of Nursing has graduated more than 300 RPCVs. The number of Fellows in the 2008-2009 academic year included 39 baccalaureate students participating in the program; more than 20 past BS-to-MSN Fellows are still at the school, enrolled in graduate programs.
